Montero's perfect birthday gift
Jefferson Montero saluted a perfect birthday present after his man-of-the-match display helped the Swans win 2-1 at Millwall.
Montero came off the bench to set up both goals as Graham Potter’s side came from behind to claim victory at The Den.
The Ecuadorian’s performance was a vital part of the visitors’ comeback, with Montero finding Kyle Naughton for the equaliser before teeing up Oli McBurnie’s winner.
It was enough for Montero to pick up the man-of-the-match award on his 29th birthday.
“I was very happy with the result. It was the perfect way to celebrate my birthday – two assists, three points and the man-of-the-match award,” he said.
“But the award is not for me – it is for the whole team because everyone worked so hard for that result. From Erwin (Mulder) in goal to Oli up front, it was a real team effort and I’m glad to be part of this squad.
“You do not go to a tough place like Millwall and come away with three points without putting in a really big effort.
“So for us to do it with 10 men for almost the whole game showed just how hard we had to work.”
