Moussa Yeo and Jisung Eom return for Birmingham City as Swansea City get Stephen Welsh injury boost
Swansea City have received an injury boost as head coach Vitor Matos confirmed Stephen Welsh avoided serious injury after limping off at Portsmouth, while wingers Jisung Eom and Moussa Yeo are available for Saturday's trip to Birmingham.
Scotland international Welsh was forced off during the first half of Tuesday’s defeat at Fratton Park after a late and high challenge from Ebou Adams, but scans have shown no significant damage and he has not been ruled out of this weekend's game at St Andrew's.
“It’s good news,” confirmed Matos. “The scan is clear so it’s really just a bad knock there. There’s nothing major, but we will still assess him to see if he’s available for Saturday.
“It’s not a bad injury, it’s just a knock that’s really painful.”
Matos also provided an update on Melker Widell, who was withdrawn during the midweek fixture with a hamstring problem.
The Swans boss confirmed the midfielder has suffered a grade one strain and will miss Saturday’s game, but is expected to return following the international break.
“We decided to make a decision after he became aware of something around his hamstring, but he’s a grade one strain, so it’s nothing major." added Matos.
"Melker won’t be available for this game but will be back straight after the international break.”
Elsewhere, Matos confirmed Eom and Yeo are both back in contention for the clash in the West Midlands.
“Eom is back available now.,” he continued. “He had two ugly knocks on his legs against Blackburn and that made the situation really painful for him. Today he trained much better and will be available on Saturday.
“Moussa is back and trained as normal as well. He’s back among the squad and available again.”
Cameron Burgess and Ronald remain sidelined, while Stephen Eustaquio is also unavailable and is expected to return after the international break.
