Nathan Wood wants to round off the most important season of his young career by helping Swansea City head into the summer on the back of a nine-match unbeaten run.

The 20-year-old centre-half was named the club’s best newcomer at Wednesday night’s annual award dinner, having impressed since his move from Middlesbrough last summer.

This has been the first campaign where Wood has been a regular at senior level, and over the course of the season he has matured into a classy Championship centre-half, striking up an excellent partnership with Ben Cabango.

Wood has helped Russell Martin’s side go on an eight-match unbeaten run that has seen them pick up 20 points from the last 24 on offer.

They face West Brom at the Swansea.com Stadium on Monday, and Wood has his sights set on rounded 2022-23 off in style.

“I’m buzzing. I feel like I’ve settled in quite well, and in the second half of the season I really grew into myself,” he said of receiving his award.

“That’s really helped me with how my season has gone personally. I’m really buzzing to get this award, it’s really nice to top it off.

“I’ve loved it here, especially with the culture I’m in on a daily basis. The style of play, and everything about it, I absolutely love it.

“It’s been a great season; I couldn’t be more grateful for all the staff and all my team-mates because they’ve been amazing from day one.

“I was speaking to one of the lads today about it, and when you’re in it playing week-in, week-out for the first time it’s not what you’re going to think it's going to be.

“The games, the mentality and the lifestyle are just all learning. Everything I’ve been through this season has been new for me.

“It was a bit different for me to what I expected in terms of lifestyle and mentality. I’ve learnt a lot, and it’s been massive for me.

“I’ll never forget this season for the rest of my life. Hopefully, it’s set me up to kick on for the rest of my career.

“It’s important now to finish the season off really strong. We just need to keep that momentum from our last 10 performances.

“Hopefully, we can finish it off with a win and take that confidence into pre-season and start building for next season.”
