19th December

As Swansea City prepare to face Hull City on Saturday, we take a look back at some previous meetings between the two sides in East Yorkshire.

Here, we recall Premier League and Division Three action that featured no shortage of action.

Premier League - December 20, 2014

The Swans were enjoying a fine season under Garry Monk and they moved to within six points of the Champions League places thanks to this slender win over the Tigers.

Midfielder Ki Sung-yueng claimed the only goal of the game after a long-range effort from Jonjo Shelvey deflected off the South Korea international into the net.

Hull, who were in the relegation zone, nearly found an equaliser when Andrew Robertson’s strike crashed against Lukasz Fabianski’s crossbar.

But the margin of victory could easily have been greater for the visitors, with Shelvey and Bafetimbi Gomis hitting the woodwork.

Division Three – December 19, 1998

Under the guidance of John Hollins the Swans extended their unbeaten run to six games during the course of a season that would end in play-off heartbreak against Scunthorpe.

Facing a Tigers side rooted to the bottom of the league, the visiting defence was rarely troubled as Swansea claimed a routine victory.

Richie Appleby and Stuart Watkin found the net in the period just before the interval to make sure of the three points.

Division Three – August 30, 1997

The Swans played out an astonishing 11-goal thriller at Boothferry Park as their winning start to the new campaign was brought to an end.

Jan Molby’s side had won their first two games and they were still in the game with the score at 2-2 shortly after the break.

Duane Darby and Gregor Rioch had put the hosts ahead, only for Jonathan Coates and Tony Bird to level for the Swans.

But Glyn Hodges and Darby put the hosts two goals to the good and, while Jason Price pulled one back, a brace from Neil Mann and Darby’s hat-trick strike meant a Rob Dewhurst own goal was no consolation to the visitors.

Division Three – October 21, 1978

A key penalty save from Geoff Crudgington helped John Toshack’s Swansea side fight back from a two-goal deficit to earn a draw.

After a goalless first half the visitors had fallen behind to goals from Alan Warboys and Paul Haigh.

But when Crudgington kept out Barry Bannister’s spot-kick the momentum of the game began to shift back in Swansea’s favour.

They made full use as Toshack himself pulled a goal back with 19 minutes to play and, just seven minutes later, Alan Waddle grabbed the equaliser.
