Preview | Barry Town United Women v Swansea City Women
Swansea City Women will look to return to winning ways when they make the trip to Barry Town United this afternoon (2pm).
Yzzy Taylor’s side will be looking to respond after suffering late heartbreak last weekend, conceding an injury-time winner in a 4-3 defeat to The New Saints at Park Hall.
The Swans showed great character to fight back after falling two goals behind through Fiona Barry and Abbie Iddenden, with Chloe Chivers halving the deficit before half-time.
A superb start to the second half saw Swansea complete the turnaround, with Aimee Deacon levelling before Chivers’ superb free-kick put the visitors ahead.
However, TNS found a late winner through Barry to claim all three points.
Swansea currently sit third in the Genero Adran Premier, three points behind both Wrexham and The New Saints. With the two sides above them facing each other this afternoon, Taylor’s side have an opportunity to close the gap at the top.
Barry Town United will be looking to pick up their first points of the season after suffering defeats in each of their opening four matches.
The Linnets began the campaign with a 4-1 defeat to Briton Ferry Llansawel, followed by a 9-1 loss to The New Saints and a 7-0 defeat to reigning champions Wrexham. Their most recent outing saw them beaten 4-1 by Cardiff City at Jenner Park last Sunday.
There has also been a change in the Barry dugout, with Stevie McCarthy-Campbell replacing James Fishlock as head coach. McCarthy-Campbell has returned to the club after previously departing last October.

“It’s been important to build on this week for us," said Taylor. "We spoke about our character throughout the first few games of the season, and we’re going to really have to show that this weekend.
“We were really disappointed with the result last weekend, but we’ve taken what we need from it and will look to put out a performance this weekend. Scoring three goals away from home is always a good sign, but it was important to take the learnings from the weekend.
“We’ve never questioned the ability and tenacity of this group. Even though they are young, they’ve put out some really strong performances across the board.
“We want to respond with a big performance, and we’ll lean on our squad throughout the game and the weeks to come.
“We know going away to any team in this league is going to be a challenge. We know Barry have had a tough start to the season, but they’ve always put out a strong side against us and have always been really positive in how they want to attack the game against us.
“That’s something we’ve had to make sure we’re prepared and ready for, and we believe we’ve done that.
“This weekend will give us a different challenge, but we’ll rise to it and make sure we put in a performance that we’re proud of.”

Swansea City Women opened their Genero Adran Premier campaign with a comfortable win over Barry Town United at Jenner Park last September.
A brace from Chloe Chivers, along with goals from Stacey John and Emily Richards, gave the Swans an ideal start to the new campaign.
The visitors opened the scoring inside two minutes as Chivers produced a fantastic free-kick from just beyond the halfway line, which dipped over Molly Arnesen and under the bar.
Things went from bad to worse for the hosts as they were reduced to 10 players, with Arnesen sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity in a clash with Aimee Deacon just outside the area.
Barry threatened despite being down to 10, with Angharad Beman firing just wide from a set-piece, while Taite Trivett had an opportunity to double Swansea’s advantage five minutes before the break but blazed over after creating space in the box.
It proved to be a quick start to the second half, with both sides creating chances. Deacon raced through on goal but dragged her effort wide, before Barry’s Sienna Stone found herself through on goal moments later. However, Amelia Forkings produced a fantastic save to deny the forward.
Chivers did double her tally just after the hour mark, latching onto a right-flank delivery from Deacon which Stacey John cleverly dummied before the forward fired into the bottom corner.
With momentum on their side, the Swans added a third 12 minutes later as John finished smartly past Blunt following some neat build-up play.
The hosts nearly pulled one back as Beman forced Forkings into another superb close-range save from a corner.
But Swansea sealed the points with eight minutes remaining, as Richards pounced on a scramble in the box to fire past Blunt and complete a 4-0 victory.
