Preview: Stevenage v Swans U21s

28th August 2018

Swansea City Under-21s launch their 2018-19 Checkatrade Trophy campaign when they face Stevenage this evening (7.45pm).

The development side go head to head with the Boro at the Lamex Stadium in Group G of the southern section.

They are likely to field a youthful side with several regulars making the step up to the first team for tonight’s Carabao Cup clash with Crystal Palace.

The young Swans, who are looking to record their first victory of 2018-19, have enjoyed some impressive exploits in the competition in recent seasons and will be hoping for more of the same this term.

After reaching the quarter-finals in 2016-17, they beat Cheltenham Town, Newport County and Forest Green Rovers on the way to topping their group the following year, before losing 3-2 to League One side Charlton Athletic in the first knockout round.

Meanwhile, League Two Stevenage, who reached the southern section semi-finals in 2013-14, are aiming to progress beyond the group stage for the first time in three years.

Dino Maamria’s side suffered their first league defeat of the season on Saturday, when they went down 2-0 against Yeovil Town.
