Preview: Swans U23s v Hertha Berlin

13th December

Swansea City Under-23s return to Premier League International Cup action when they welcome Hertha Berlin to Landore this evening (7pm).

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the Group E clash.

FORM

The young Swans opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw against group leaders Villarreal in September, thanks to a dramatic last-minute equaliser from Adnan Maric.

With only the group winners and two best runners-up progressing to the knockout stages, the Swans will be targeting a victory this evening to remain on course to match the Spanish side, who have registered seven points from their three games.

The development side are also aiming to bounce back from their 3-1 defeat by Blackburn Rovers on Monday.

Meanwhile, Hertha have already been eliminated from this season’s competition following back-to-back defeats against Villarreal and Liverpool.

Nevertheless, the German outfit will be eager to exit the tournament in style.

PRE-MATCH VIEW

Swans Under-23s coach Gary Richards: “It’s very straightforward for us. We have to produce a good performance because we do need to win if we want to go through.”

REMEMBER THE LAST TIME?

Adam King was the hero when the sides met in this competition two seasons ago – scoring a hat-trick in a commanding 5-1 victory at the Liberty.

Part of a strong side that also included Oli McBurnie, Connor Roberts, Joe Rodon and Daniel James, King opened the scoring after just nine minutes.

Julius Kade equalised for Hertha just after the break but, in the blink of an eye, the hosts took charge of the contest with goals from McBurnie and James.

King added a fourth shortly afterwards before completing his hat-trick with 20 minutes remaining as the Swans soared into the semi-finals.
