PORTSMOUTH PREVIEW

Swansea City are quickly back in Championship action on home turf as they look to build on Saturday's win against Oxford United when they welcome Portsmouth to SA1 this evening (7.45pm).

Marko Stamenic’s header and Josh Tymon’s brilliant volley saw Swansea City return to winning ways and give Vitor Matos a first victory as head coach on Saturday.

Portsmouth, meanwhile, sit two places below the Swans, having picked up one win in their last five outings, a 3-1 victory over third-placed Millwall.

Team news

Josh Key

Josh Key was sidelined on the weekend due to illness, with Matos waiting to see if the right-back is well enough to be in contention to return against Portsmouth.

The Swans boss otherwise has a fully-fit squad to choose from.

Pre-match views

Vitor Matos

Vitor Matos: "When you build new ideas with wins, it's 10 times easier because it gives the feeling that you are improving, but it's just one step.

"We need to improve in a lot of areas on the game. We need to find the consistency, especially when we are in the second half, the ways that we need to control the game better.

"What we need to do, is to recover well and do everything we can [to prepare for Portsmouth]. The departments and the club help the players to recover, [we] find the best XI possible and compete again."

John Mousinho: "Swansea have had a change in manager, and the new manager has come in and they look a different team.

"They took a lot of positivity into the Oxford game, and hopefully Tuesday will be a good game."

Meet the officials

Tom Reeves

Tom Reeves will be the referee when Swansea City host Portsmouth at the Swansea.com Stadium this evening (7.45pm).

Reeves will be taking charge of a Swansea game for the first time, and this will be just his fourth Championship fixture.

The Coventry official has been refereeing in the EFL since the 2021-22 campaign after three seasons in the National League.

So far this season he has had the whistle for 15 games, handing out 48 yellow cards and one red.

He will be assisted by Ian Cooper and Hugh Gilroy. Gavin Ward will be the fourth official.

Remember the last time?

Swansea City 2 Portsmouth 2 - November 30, 2024

Swansea City fought back from two goals down to claim a point against Portsmouth at the Swansea.com Stadium.

The Swans had trailed 2-0 after Matt Ritchie and Josh Murphy had finished chances from situations where the hosts failed to clear their lines.

But they responded quickly when Liam Cullen’s superb cross was put into his own net by Connor Ogilvie.

Cullen then got on the scoresheet to level matters early in the second half as the Swans surged back into the contest.
