Preview | Swansea City Women v Barry Town United Women
Swansea City Women return to the Swansea.com Stadium this evening to face Barry Town United in their final home game of phase one (5.10pm KO).
The Swans will be looking to end the opening section of the Genero Adran Premier season on a high, after confirming a place in the top four after last week’s 3-0 victory over The New Saints.
Barry, meanwhile, are still fighting for a top-four place, currently sitting in sixth place, four points behind the Saints after a comprehensive 4-1 victory over Pontypridd United three weeks ago.
The Swans will also be looking to get their first victory in the stadium this season after suffering defeats to Cardiff and Wrexham earlier on in the campaign.
Pre-match views
Head coach Yzzy Taylor: " “We’re really excited. Playing at the stadium whenever we get the opportunity is a really special occasion for us.
"It’s important now that we build momentum ahead of phase two. We’ve shown at times this season that we can do that, but the focus is on maintaining consistency as a group. Last week’s win against TNS showed how we want to play, and hopefully we can bring that same level of performance on Sunday.
"Barry are always a tough opposition. We played them at the stadium last year and they held us to a 0-0 draw, so hopefully this time we can go one better. It’s been a while since we last played them on the opening day when we dominated, but James Fishlock has gone in there and he’s an experienced manager in this league. We know they’ll cause us problems, so we have to be ready for the challenge - and we’re really looking forward to it.
"We want to get as many people as possible down to our games, especially when we have the showcase of the stadium. We’ve had good turnouts so far this season, but we’re urging as many people as possible to come along. I believe we’ll put in a strong performance and really show the local community what Swansea City Women are about.”

Swansea City Women opened their Genero Adran Premier campaign with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Barry Town United at Jenner Park.
A brace from Chloe Chivers, along with further goals from Stacey John and Emily Richards, secured the Swans’ first win of the season on the opening day.
It took just two minutes for Chivers to open her account for the campaign in stunning fashion, striking a free kick from just beyond the halfway line which dipped over keeper Molly Arnesen and under the bar.
Things then went from bad to worse for the hosts as the Linnets were reduced to ten players, with goalkeeper Arnesen sent off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity following a collision with Aimee Deacon outside the area.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Barry still threatened at times through Angharad Beman and Sienna Stone, but Chivers doubled Swansea’s lead on the hour mark. The midfielder latched onto a delivery from the right by Deacon, which was cleverly dummied by John, before firing home.
The momentum firmly swung in Swansea’s favour, and John added a third after a slick team move saw her finish smartly past goalkeeper Emily Blunt. The scoring was completed eight minutes from time when Richards reacted quickest to a scramble in the box following a corner, poking the ball home from close range to seal an impressive opening-day victory for Yzzy Taylor’s side.
