Swansea City Women kick off their Genero Adran Trophy campaign this afternoon as they host fellow Adran Premier side Barry Town United in the round of 16 at the ThermaGlaze Ground (2pm kick-off).

The Swans reached the quarter-finals of the competition last season, following a 4-0 victory over Cardiff Met in the round of 16, before suffering a 6-0 defeat to Cardiff City at Llandarcy in the last eight.

Yzzy Taylor's side will be looking to bounce back in cup action following last week's league defeat to Cardiff City, while also hoping to go one step further in their pursuit of silverware after suffering heartbreak in last season's Bute Energy Welsh Cup final, where they lost on penalties to Cardiff having held a 3-0 lead.

Barry Town United, meanwhile, will be looking to build on their impressive home draw against The New Saints last weekend. The visitors have lost just one of their last four league matches, marking a significant improvement in form after losing their opening five games of the campaign.

The two sides met just a few weeks ago in the league, with the Swans coming out as convincing 4-0 winners at Jenner Park, courtesy of braces from Aimee Deacon and Chloe Chivers.

Like the Swans, Barry also reached the quarter-finals of the competition last season, opening their campaign with a 3-0 victory over Cascade YC before suffering a 2-0 defeat to Briton Ferry Llansawel in the last eight.

Yzzy Taylor

Swansea City head coach Yzzy Taylor: “Cup competitions are always exciting, and as a club, we want to compete for silverware on every front. It’s another opportunity to show what we’re capable of and take a step towards achieving our ambitions this season.

“We know cup football brings different challenges, and there’s no room for complacency. Our focus is on preparing properly, delivering a strong performance and making the best possible start to the competition.”

“Barry are a competitive side who work extremely hard, and they showed that when we last faced them. Their recent results show they’re continuing to improve, and picking up a point against TNS was a strong result.

“We expect them to be organised, motivated and ready to compete. We’ll need to be patient, match their work rate and make sure we show our own quality.”

“We have a really competitive squad this season, with quality options across the pitch. As a manager, it’s important to know you can make changes without losing the standards and intensity expected from the team.

“Every player has a role to play, and there are opportunities for players to come in and make an impact. Whoever takes to the pitch on Sunday, I’m confident they’ll know what’s required and be ready to give everything for the team.”

“Last season’s experience will certainly give the players extra motivation. Reaching a cup final was a fantastic achievement, but there was disappointment at not being able to bring the trophy home.

“The group will have learned a lot from that experience, and we want to use that disappointment as motivation rather than dwell on it.

“Our ambition is to go one step further, compete for silverware and create something special for the club and our supporters. But we can’t look too far ahead. We have to focus on the next game and earn every step along the way.”

Eilish Mitchell

Defender Eilish Mitchell: “Training has been really good this week. We are feeling confident even after the result against Cardiff, but we have been performing well and preparing in training, and we are all really up for this Sunday.

“From our last cup run, there is definitely unfinished business. We know what it takes to get to a final, and it’s now about us performing on the pitch to get us there.

“It will definitely be a step up from when we last played them and hopefully a good challenge. It will be difficult to break down their block, but hopefully we will be able to get a good result.

“Momentum is key, and it is something we really want to start building, starting with the game on Sunday. We have been playing well but struggling to find goals, so if we can change that on Sunday, it will definitely help us in future games.”

Aimee Deacon

Braces from Aimee Deacon and Chloe Chivers saw the Swans return to winning ways with a convincing 4-0 victory over 10-player Barry Town United at Jenner Park five weeks ago.

Swansea made a superb start as Chivers unleashed a stunning effort from 25 yards after being played in by Taite Trivett, with her strike flying into the top corner beyond goalkeeper Molly Arnesen.

Taylor's side doubled their advantage six minutes before the break. Trivett won possession high up the pitch before finding Chivers, who drove into the area, cut onto her right foot and fired a fierce effort beyond Arnesen to complete her brace.

The visitors came out strongly once again in the second half and quickly found a third, with Trivett providing her third assist of the afternoon. The winger delivered a superb low ball into the area, which was met by the arriving A. Deacon, who showed great instinct to get in front of her defender and slot the ball home.

Things went from bad to worse for the hosts as Amelia Herbert, who had only been introduced at half-time, was shown a second yellow card following a foul on Maddy Murray inside the area.

A. Deacon stepped up from 12 yards and made no mistake, sending Arnesen the wrong way to complete her brace and seal a convincing 4-0 victory for the Swans.
