Swansea City Women play at the Swansea.com Stadium for the first time this season as they host Briton Ferry Llansawel Ladies in the Genero Adran Premier on Sunday (3pm kick-off).

The Swans will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing 8-1 defeat against Wrexham at the ThermaGlaze Ground last weekend, which marked their first home defeat of the season.

Yzzy Taylor’s side currently sit fourth in the table, having recorded four wins from their opening six games. They will be looking to close the gap on the teams above them, as two of those sides, Cardiff City and The New Saints, face each other this weekend.

Briton Ferry, meanwhile, have enjoyed a mixed start to the campaign, winning two of their opening six fixtures. Those victories included an emphatic 4-1 win over Barry Town United and a 7-1 triumph against Aberystwyth Town a fortnight ago.

However, Ferry have also shown vulnerabilities at the back and, like the Swans, suffered an 8-1 defeat against Wrexham earlier this season.

Sunday’s fixture will also see a familiar face return to the Swansea.com Stadium, with club legend Katy Hosford set to face her former side after bringing an end to her 16-year association with Swansea City in the summer before joining Briton Ferry ahead of the new campaign.

Yzzy Taylor

Swansea City head coach Yzzy Taylor: “Training this week has been positive. It is always tough to come into a week after a defeat of that nature, but I couldn’t have asked for anything more in terms of the players’ response.

“We’ve analysed the difficult moments we had to deal with, and I feel we’ve gained a really good understanding of each other.

“Briton Ferry have a new manager in Mark Murison, who has consistently spoken about the intensity he wants his side to bring to games. We’ll expect that both in and out of possession.

“They’ve had a mixed start to the season, but they’ve shown they can score plenty of goals when they need to.

“It’s a game of football at the end of the day, and we have to go out there and do our best. We’ll put out the strongest team we believe is right, regardless of experience or whether players have played in this environment before.

“Garden Village has been great for us so far this season, but playing at the stadium is always a great occasion for us to relish.

“We know it will be a bigger pitch than we’re used to, and hopefully there will be plenty more fans there cheering us on, which we can’t wait for.”

Sammy Wynne

Midfielder Sammy Wynne: “I think it’s important not to get too high after wins or too low after losses, and I think that’s what we’ve done this week.

“We’ve looked back really honestly and worked hard in training. It’s been a productive week in terms of addressing the issues from last Sunday while also preparing for this weekend’s game.

“I have every confidence that this squad has the mentality and resilience to go out there on Sunday and show what we can do.

“Cardiff is the game you look for in the calendar, but this is a local derby and has that different sort of spice to it, which Briton Ferry help bring.

“They’re always up for the games against us, and we’ll have to match and better that.

“Their team is quite familiar. They have players we know really well, as well as players the girls will have faced many times in this league.

“Playing in the stadium adds another dimension, too. For us, it’s really important that we control and manage the emotions of the game.

“The support at Garden Village has been unbelievable so far, and I know the girls have been really grateful for that.

“Every time we’ve played in the stadium, we’ve been supported really well, which gives us a big boost. Hopefully, we can create another good memory to add to the collection we already have there.”

Aimee Deacon

Swansea City Women claimed their third consecutive victory the last time they hosted Briton Ferry Llansawel, securing an emphatic 6-1 win at Llandarcy Academy of Sport.

Four goals from Aimee Deacon and a brace from Chloe Chivers inspired the Swans to an emphatic victory, taking their tally to 16 goals in two games after putting 10 past Pontypridd United the previous week.

Chivers opened the scoring from close range before Deacon reacted quickest to turn home a rebound and double Swansea’s lead. Chivers then curled home her second of the afternoon before Deacon converted a penalty on the stroke of half-time, with Ferry also reduced to 10 players.

Jade Crofts pulled one back for the visitors after the break with a effort from distance.

Swansea would continue to add goals however, as Deacon completed her hat-trick before adding a fourth in the 58th minute to round off a dominant performance from Yzzy Taylor’s side.
