Preview | Torquay United v Swansea City U23s

23rd July
Plainmoor 16x7

Swansea City Under-23s are searching for their first victory of pre-season when they face National League side Torquay United this evening (7.30pm).

The young Swans travel to Plainmoor aiming to build on their hard-earned 1-1 draw with Welsh Premier League outfit Carmarthen Town last weekend.

Despite falling behind just after the half-hour mark, the development side continued to battle away and were eventually rewarded as Mason Jones-Thomas tucked away a last-minute equaliser.

Meanwhile, Torquay welcome the Swans on the back of three consecutive victories during pre-season.

After opening with a 5-0 win over Bideford, the Gulls put Plymouth Argyle to the sword 3-1 before overcoming Tiverton Town 1-0 last weekend.

Led by the experienced Gary Johnson, Torquay are preparing for life back in the fifth tier on the English football pyramid after storming to the National League South title last season – finishing 10 points clear of second-placed Woking.

“We expect a tough test,” under-23s coach Gary Richards said.

“It will be another hard game against a senior team who will be looking to do very well in the league they’ve been promoted into this season.

“It will provide another good experience for our young players.

“I’m certain we’ll learn a lot about them as a team and the most important thing is that, come the end of it, they’ll be better for it.”
