Swansea City travel to The Hawthorns to take on West Bromwich Albion for what will be head coach Vitor Matos' first away game at the helm.

The Portuguese saw his side suffer a 2-1 defeat to Derby County in midweek, a fourth loss in a row, and he and his players will be desperate to return to winning ways in the west Midlands.

They face a Baggies side sitting five points and three places above them in the Championship table, having won one of their last seven league fixtures.

Team news

Vitor Matos

Vitor Matos has a fully-fit squad to choose from after reporting no new injury concerns in the wake of the midweek game against Derby County.

West Brom will be without Toby Collyer after he suffered an injury against Birmingham City, while club captain Jed Wallace is a long-term absentee.

Pre-match views

Vitor Matos:  "We need to focus on ourselves at the moment, and to create the game we want it's clear that how we can improve how we use the possession we have and translate that into opportunities.

"West Brom have only lost one game at home at the moment, so we know how hard it is to go there and we need to compete. That's the most important thing you want."

Ryan Mason: "First of all we need everyone inside the stadium on Saturday to come and help as much as possible, bring the same energy that was brought on Wednesday.

"I thought it was incredible. They've been incredible all season and I'm sure they could feel a group of players that were leaving everything on the pitch and that'll be the case again Saturday.

"So we need to come together as a club and really try and generate that intensity Saturday."

Meet the officials

Tom Nield referee

Tom Nield will be the man in the middle when Swansea City travel to take on West Bromwich Albion on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

The match will mark the first time the official from Wakefield has overseen a Swans match this season, having last had the whistle for the victory at Queens Park Rangers last term.

Nield, who is also a nurse, was added to the National List of Referees in April 2018 but less than two years later, Nield requested to lessen his PGMOL appointments in order to work additional hours on the front line in the acute and emergency service at the Mid-Yorkshire Hospital's NHS Trust as the country dealt with the Covid-19 pandemic.

While the Championship and Premier League returned to complete the 2020-21 season behind closed doors, League One and League Two voted to curtail their seasons and so Nield was able to focus fully on his head of nursing role.

So far this season, he has overseen 11 fixtures handing out 42 yellow cards.

On Saturday, he will be assisted by Andrew Dallison and Mark Russell. Aaron Bannister will be the fourth official.

Remember the last time?

A much-improved second-half performance was not enough for Swansea City as they fell to defeat against West Bromwich Albion on their last visit to The Hawthorns.

Jayson Molumby got what proved to be the winner in first-half stoppage time, at the end of a period the hosts had by far the better of, with Lawrence Vigouroux making three important saves.

But the second half was a role reversal, but the Swans were unable to make the most of big chances that fell to Žan Vipotnik, Gonçalo Franco and Jisung Eom, with the latter also having a penalty shout waved away.
