Swansea City Women secured back-to-back victories to open their Genero Adran Premier campaign after battling to a 1-0 win over Aberystwyth Town at Park Avenue.

A first-half penalty from Aimee Deacon sealed all three points for the Swans in a physical encounter, with Yzzy Taylor’s side made to work hard throughout the 90 minutes against a well-drilled Aberystwyth side.

It was a tough opening 45 minutes for Swansea, who struggled to create clear-cut opportunities against a stubborn home defence.

The second half mirrored much of the first, with neither side creating a huge amount in front of goal, aside from an early opportunity for Caitlin Seaborne, who struck the crossbar from a corner, as Swansea saw out the game to claim their first away win of the season.

The Swans were the side with the greater attacking impetus and their first opportunity fell to Chloe Chivers on the edge of the area, but her first-time effort struck the right-hand post.

Aberystwyth looked to frustrate the Swans by getting numbers behind the ball and almost took advantage on the break when Carys Bufton drove down the left before delivering a dangerous ball towards the far post, but Sioned Kersey could not get a touch with her outstretched leg to turn it goalwards.

Swansea continued to search for a breakthrough and eventually found the opener on the brink of half-time.

Deacon drove into the area before being brought down by Libby Isaac, with referee Nicholas Davies pointing to the spot.

The striker stepped up to take the resulting penalty and calmly found the bottom corner to open her account for the season and give Taylor’s side the lead heading into the break.

The second half mirrored much of the first, with clear-cut opportunities at a premium as the Swans looked to extend their slender advantage.

They came close to doubling their lead shortly after the restart when Lauren Davies’ corner was met by Seaborne, whose header crashed against the crossbar.

The hosts continued to make it a physical contest as the game entered its closing stages, but Swansea remained resolute as they looked to see out the victory.

The Swans had one final opportunity to add a second when Quianna Wheeler delivered a ball onto the head of Megan Bowen, but she was unable to keep her effort down.

However, Taylor’s side comfortably saw out the remaining minutes to secure a hard-earned three points and maintain their perfect start to the Genero Adran Premier campaign.
