A youthful Swansea City Under-18s were beaten by an experienced Charlton Athletic in Professional Development League South.

The young Swans were no match for an in-form Charlton, who recorded their seventh win in eight games and have now scored 28 goals during that span.

Nevertheless, there were positives for the visitors, whose squad included seven under-16s and two first-year scholars, as they demonstrated brilliant levels of work rate and desire throughout the contest.

There were seven changes from the 3-2 defeat by Watford last time out, with only Jacob Edwards, Sebastian Dabrowski, Adnaan Moti and Morgan Clarke retaining their places in the starting line-up.

Despite a well-organised defensive display for the opening 38 minutes, the Swans were finally breached with two quickfire goals before the break.

The under-18s also held their own for large portions of the second half, and were unlucky not to get back in the game as Morgan Clarke and Adnaan Moti saw chances go begging.

And a couple of individual errors in the final 20 minutes culminated in Charlton adding a further three goals to their tally.

“From the last time we played them, certain elements in our game have improved,” under-18s assistant coach Darran Jones said.

“We were very young again; we had two under-15s and three under-16s starting.

“We were pleased with the application of the players, the work rate and desire. We showed an extra grit.

“Out of possession, we were generally well-organised against a very strong Charlton team.

“Thinking from a long-term perspective, the positives outlay the negatives.”
