First-half goals from Harlan Perry and Josh Kallicharan were enough to secure victory a first victory on the road for Swansea City Under-21s as they secured three points over Hull City on Tuesday afternoon.
The hosts made a bright start to the first half, the trialist spotted the run of Ed Devine in behind the Swans’ backline in the opening minutes. Devine’s shot was saved by the outstretched right boot of goalkeeper Evan Watts.
Swansea took the lead inside the opening 10 minutes. A mishap playing out from the back was pounced upon by the visitors, Perry picked up the ball on the edge of the City penalty area and slotted past Howard for 1-0.
From this point onwards, Swansea were in total control of proceedings. Jack Fanning headed over shortly after the Swans took the lead and, despite Calvin Okike testing Watts from range, Swansea doubled their advantage in the 18th minute of the game.
Captain Yori Griffith received the ball on the right side of the area. His cross beat Stan Ashbee, and Kallicharan outmuscled George Goodman at the back post to turn home to make it 2-0.
The most dangerous of these crosses came from Kai Rhodes’ left-footed ball was inviting for those waiting in the area, but caught Joseph Davies unaware in the box, ricocheting off the Swansea forward and rolling wide.
After Albert Matique forced a corner in the 75th minute, the Swans countered from City’s ball into the area. Watts punched the ball away, before centre-back Gregory Asemokhai charged forward and found Rhodes. As he burst into the penalty area, a sliding recovery challenge from Ocaya denied a shot on Howard’s goal.
Before the final whistle, substitute Ekemini Umoren forced Watts into a diving save and Goodman’s header was tipped over by the Swans’ ‘keeper.
