Swansea City Under-23s suffered their second defeat of the season as they were beaten 4-0 by an experienced Hull City in the Professional Development League.

Goals from James Berry, Billy Chadwick, Callum Jones and Martin Samuelson did the damage for the hosts at the Roy West Centre.

Jon Grey made four changes to the side that began the 3-3 draw with Colchester United last time out, handing a debut to first-year scholar Kai Ludvigsen.

Meanwhile, Ali Al-Hamadi, Bradley Gibbings and Ryan Bevan were all recalled to face a Hull side boasting EFL and Scottish Premiership experience.

The Swans fell behind in the 40th minute when Berry made amends for an earlier missed penalty by heading home from Samuelson’s cross, before Chadwick doubled the lead 17 minutes into the second half.

Jones made it 3-0 seven minutes from time when he fired a shot into the top corner, while Samuelson completed the scoring from the penalty spot in the dying moments.

“We’re obviously disappointed with how we adapted to playing against direct opponents on a difficult surface to what we’re used to,” Grey said.

“Although we created a number of chances, we gave away two or three really sloppy goals from direct play.

“At this level, it’s about rolling your sleeves up and matching your opponents in grit and determination and having the drive to win first and second balls.

“It’s an adjustment that we have to make very quickly. When we go away, we have to adapt to the situations and surroundings.

“If we don’t, we’ll end up not getting the results we want.

“On a positive note, it was another good learning experience for our players. The most important thing is that they take it all in their stride going forward.”
