Swansea City Under-18s bowed out of the Premier League Cup following a 5-0 defeat against holders Manchester City at the Academy Stadium.

The young Swans’ hopes of progressing to the knockout stages were ended as Liam Delap scored twice, while further strikes from Cole Palmer, James McAtee and Oscar Bobb completed the scoring.

The hosts had collected maximum points from their opening two games in Group D – scoring eight goals along the way.

They began brightly and eventually took the lead on the half-hour mark as Palmer’s cross from the right left Delap with a simple finish.

The striker doubled his tally courtesy of another tap-in nine minutes later after the ball ricocheted kindly into his path.

Within two minutes, it was 3-0 as Palmer made no mistake from the penalty spot after Ben Knight was brought down in the box.

Anthony Wright’s side were breached again in the 86th minute when substitute McAtee latched onto a through ball before calmly beating Lewis Webb.

The hosts rounded off their victory two minutes from time as Bobb cut inside from the right wing and bent a wonderful curling effort into the far corner.
