Vipotnik cele

Zan Vipotnik struck for the third game in a row and Ronald also got on the scoresheet as Swansea City extended their unbeaten run to five matches in all competitions with victory at Hillsborough.

The striker fired home a left-footed strike early in the second half to follow up his efforts against Watford and Plymouth and finish a sweeping attack, before Ronald's placed finish sealed the three points inside the final 10 minutes.

After an energetic opening from the hosts the Swans controlled much of the contest and could easily have won by more with the outstanding Ethan Galbraith, Gonalo Franco, Cameron Burgess, Ronald and Vipotnik all going close.

There was also another stout defensive display and clean sheet, with Lawrence Vigouroux hardly having a save of note to make.

The Swans had shown three changes from the draw with Watford as Marko Stamenić and Zeidane Inoussa were handed first league starts, with Vipotnik also included in the starting line-up.

The home side started on the front foot and Jamal Lowe had an early chance when Charlie McNeill’s chipped cross found him unmarked 10 yards out, but his header was wide of the mark.

The Owls’ energy and aggression got the crowd involved and Swansea struggled to initially get into the game.

But when the visitors did start to connect their play in attack they created two good chances in quick succession.

Inoussa broke into space and laid the ball into the path of the arriving Galbraith, but the midfielder skewed his strike wide, before Vipotnik diverted a low cross into the arms of the keeper.

A deflected Josh Key strike then just evaded Inoussa and bounced into the gloves of Ethan Horvath.

The Swans were the more fluent of the two teams and a lovely move 10 minutes before the break took them from in their own half to the Wednesday area, but Inoussa could not get a shot away.

At the other end, Barry Bannan sent a tame shot from distance straight at Vigouroux before the Swans stitched together another sweeping attack that should have ended in a goal, but Franco sent his shot wide after receiving Inoussa’s pass and dummying away from a defender.

That ensured it was goalless at the interval but Swansea broke the deadlock five minutes into the second half with Vipotnik’s third goal in a week.

Galbraith was at the heart of the move as he surged forward from midfield and found Inoussa. The winger slipped in the Slovenian and he flashed a strike beyond Horvath at the near post.

Franco lashed a volley over a few minutes later as the visitors threatened to quickly double their advantage.

Vipotnik had a header blocked when he got himself unmarked at a corner, and Cameron Burgess powered a header of his own just over from another set-piece.

The Swansea striker was proving a handful, and Horvath just about tipped his shot from the edge of the box around the post after Vipotnik had taken one touch to set himself and unleashed a firm drive.

Chances were coming with increasing regularity and Horvath was soon in action again, denying Ronald from a lovely Ben Cabango pass.

But Wednesday remained in the hunt and Swansea hearts were in mouths when Dominic Iorfa scooped an effort over the bar after skipping into the area.

However, Swansea put the game to bed with Vipotnik slipped the ball into Ronald, who had time to turn and loft the ball beyond Horvath's grasp and into the net.
