Jack Turner scored a hat-trick as Swansea City Under-18s were well beaten by Southampton in Premier League South.

Turner’s treble – along with further strikes from Seamus Keogh and Ramello Mitchell – inflicted a 5-0 defeat on the young Swans, whose winless run was extended to seven games.

Southampton had suffered eight consecutive home defeats but made a bright start at Staplewood.

They took the lead in the 12th minute as Keogh converted from the penalty spot after Mitchell was brought down by Swans keeper Tyler Evans.

The visitors looked to respond with Scott Butler seeing an effort tipped onto the post, while Josh Thomas volleyed just over.

But it was the Saints who stretched their lead as Turner struck twice in the space of 11 minutes. First, he slotted home after pouncing on a defensive error, before heading in Zuriel Otseh-Taiwo’s cross.

The Swans continued to plug away on the South Coast with Thomas and skipper Jacob Jones going close, but they were unable to break down a stubborn Southampton defence.

And the hosts wrapped up their victory with two goals in the final seven minutes.

First, Mitchell burst through the defence and slotted past Evans, before Turner completed his hat-trick with a brilliant first-time finish in the dying moments.
