Swansea City remained unbeaten and top of the Championship despite being held to a goalless draw by Wrexham at the Swansea.com Stadium.

For much of the contest the Swans were the side on the offensive, but they were frustrated by an organised and obdurate Wrexham rearguard.

Melker Widell had one of their better openings blocked, while Moussa Yeo just failed to reach an inviting cross at the end of a sweeping second-half attack, while Zan Vipotnik fired straight at the keeper in the closing stages.

At the other end Wrexham failed to take clear chances through Ollie Rathbone and Max Cleworth as it ended all-square under the lights in SA1.

The Swans had shown three changes frohe win over Watford as Jay Fulton returned to captain the hosts, while Widell and Moussa Yeo were also handed starts.

Swansea made the early running, penning the visitors in their own half and teeing up a chance that Adam Idah could not quite make a proper connection with via an acrobatic effort.

Slick work down the right then saw Yeo just overhit a final low ball into the area with Stephen Eustaquio waiting.

Wrexham were happy to sit deep, look to soak up pressure and then break when possible and they proved stubborn and difficult to break down even as the Swans dominated possession and territory.

The Swans once again showed tremendous work-rate in quickly securing possession again when required, and some of the slick passages of attacking play that characterised their wins over Derby and Watford.

The clearest opening yet fell to Widell after Josh Tymon and Jisung Eom had combined to pick the Swede out as he arrived in the box, but his volley was not cleanly hit and was blocked.

A sweeping attack ended with Cleworth having a nervy moment as his block of Tymon’s cross threatened to creep in at the near post, but it was quickly gathered by Anthony Patterson.

But it remained goalless at the break, although both sides enjoyed some bright moments early in the second half that suggested the game may be about to open up.

Rathbone missed Wrexham’s best chance after an intelligent lay-off from Sam Smith had allowed the midfielder to drive into the area and send a low drive just wide of the far post.

Swansea responded with a sweeping attack down the left-hand side as Eom, Tymon and Idah exchanged passes, with Yeo just unable to reach the full-back’s final ball.

The game suddenly sprang to life, Swansea getting some rewards for their positive intent, with Wrexham asking questions via more direct means.

The two sides rang the changes in search of a breakthrough as the final 25 minutes arrived, and Cleworth followed Rathbone’s lead by spurning a glorious chance from a well-worked Wrexham free-kick.

An outstanding Swans counter then freed Yeo into space and he picked out Vipotnik, but his effort was straight at Patterson.
