Swansea City Ladies cele Cardiff

Swansea City Ladies produced an excellent performance as they romped to an emphatic victory over Cardiff City Women in the South Wales derby.

The Swans had endured a difficult few weeks, which had seen them suffer a first league defeat in three years against the Bluebirds, before suffering defeat to the same opponents in the semi-final of the FAW Women’s Cup.

But there was no prospect of a repeat this time as Chris Church’s side took control from the off to secure a dominant win and strengthen their hold on top spot in the Genero Adran Premier.

Stacey John-Davis bagged a brace, while there were also goals for Karmyn Carter and Chloe Chivers.

The home side wasted no time at Llandarcy as they flew into a second-minute lead; John-Davis had the initial effort on goal and Carter was on hand to turn home the loose ball.

Further chances followed for the Swans, with Ellie Lake sending in a threatening cross and Chivers putting a free-kick narrowly wide.

But they eventually capitalised on their pressure as they doubled their lead in the 32nd minute with Katy Hosford the provider, setting up John-Davis to find the net.

But the visitors hauled themselves back into the contest three minutes before the interval, a cross from Amy Williams being turned home by Danielle Green at the far post.

However, Swansea restored their two-goal advantage 11 minutes into the second half, Chivers taking aim from distance to beat the keeper with a fine strike.

That goal came shortly after John-Davis had struck the woodwork, but she was soon celebrating her second of the afternoon with a close-range finish in the 67th minute.
