Swansea City Under-23s suffered South Wales derby disappointment as they were beaten by their Cardiff counterparts at Landore.

The Swans faced a Cardiff side who had won all seven of their league fixtures this season and sat top of the South Group of the Professional Development League.

Swansea dominated possession throughout the game, but the pace on the break from the Bluebirds proved the difference.

The Swans found themselves behind just three minutes into the game, Jai Semenyo capitalising on a misplaced pass before firing past Lewis Webb.

But just nine minutes later the Swans were level, Yan Dhanda’s powerful shot was saved, but Lincoln Mcfayden smashed the rebound past George Ratcliffe in the Cardiff goal.

However, the Swans trailed once again in the 29th minute. Eli King’s cross found the towering Chanka Zimba in the box who powered a header past Webb.

Swansea came close to levelling the game once again, Tarrelle Whittaker broke down the right before finding Daniel Williams in the box, but Ratcliffe was equal to his effort.

Cardiff made the Swans pay for the missed opportunity, doubling their lead just a minute later. A long ball forward nodded on by Zimba sent Isaak Davies through one-on-one, and he arrowed a shot into the bottom right to make it 3-1.

Swansea came out firing in the second half, with Whittaker and Mcfayden both testing the goalkeeper.

But Cardiff continued to push, James Connolly raising above the Swansea defence from a corner, but powering his header over the crossbar.

Dylan Morgan played an excellent ball through to Sam Leverett over the top, but the midfielder couldn’t take advantage, with a good block from a Cardiff defender.

Despite pushing for a second goal, the Swans couldn’t find a breakthrough and were handed a second consecutive defeat in the league.
