Swans Women v Barry cele

Swansea City Women progressed to the quarter-finals of the Genero Adran Trophy following a 1-0 victory over Barry Town United at the ThermaGlaze Ground.

A first goal of the season from Maisie Miller was enough to send the Swans through to the last eight, although Yzzy Taylor's side had several opportunities to extend their advantage throughout the contest, as well as seeing two goals ruled out.

Miller initially had a goal ruled out, while captain Jess Williams also saw an effort disallowed for offside in first-half stoppage time.

The Swans' number seven eventually broke the deadlock in the second half, with Taylor's side creating further opportunities to extend their lead, only to be denied by some superb goalkeeping from Barry's Molly Arnesen.

Swansea made a bright start and created two excellent opportunities in quick succession. Taite Trivett received the ball on the edge of the area before shifting it and unleashing a powerful effort which was parried away by Molly Arnesen. The rebound fell to Miller, but the Barry goalkeeper was on hand once again to deny the winger and hold onto the ball.

Opal Rayner was then called into action for the first time as a ball from midfield played Sienna Stone through on goal. The Barry forward found herself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but Rayner stood tall to make an important save and keep the scores level.

Miller thought she had given the Swans the lead with ten minutes remaining in the first half, but her effort was ruled out after the ball went directly into the net from an indirect drop ball without touching another player.

Lauren Davies went close in first-half stoppage time after Barry failed to clear a corner. The ball fell to the midfielder inside the area, but her powerful effort was brilliantly parried away by Arnesen.

Captain J. Williams also had the ball in the back of the net after controlling a delivery into the area and calmly finding the bottom corner beyond Arnesen, but referee Robert Fulford ruled the effort out for offside.

Miller eventually broke the deadlock five minutes into the second half. Following a defensive block from Barry, the ball fell kindly to the Swans' number seven, who picked her spot and curled a superb effort towards the far corner, with the ball bouncing beyond Arnesen and into the net.

Barry almost responded immediately when Emily Freeman's corner found Grace Corne, but her glancing header drifted narrowly wide of the post.

Miller continued to threaten the visitors' defence after a strong challenge in midfield from Aoife Sheridan won possession for the Swans. Sheridan found Miller, who drove forward before trying her luck from 25 yards, but her effort flew narrowly over the crossbar.

Taylor's side continued to search for a second as Sheridan broke into the area and squared the ball towards Lily Deacon, but a crucial block from Emily Freeman diverted the effort behind for a corner.

Substitutes Annabel Stokes and Monet Legall then came close to combining for a second Swansea goal. Stokes delivered an excellent ball across the area to Legall, whose powerful close-range effort was superbly tipped over the bar by Arnesen.

The chances continued to fall Swansea's way, with a Lauren Davies corner finding Quianna Wheeler, who attempted an acrobatic finish but sent her effort narrowly wide of the post.

Wheeler threatened again minutes later, sending a high, curling effort towards goal which looked to be dipping beneath the crossbar, only to land narrowly over.

A final opportunity fell to Stokes in added time, who found herself through on goal after a quick Swansea breakaway, but Arnesen produced another excellent save to deny the striker and keep the deficit to a single goal.
