Swansea City Women fell to a heavy defeat against Wrexham at the M&P Group 3G.

Despite a strong start from the Swans, a dominant second-half display from Wrexham proved decisive, with Stacey John’s early equaliser ultimately not enough for the hosts.

Ava Suckley had given the visitors the lead before John quickly levelled, but the Wrexham forward restored their lead 10 minutes before the break.

The away side then eased away to a commanding win in the second half with further goals from Faye Knox (2), Katie Barker (2), and Mariam Mahmood to condemn the Swans to a record Genero Adrian Premier defeat.

Swansea had began brightly, with Taite Trivett breaking down the left inside the opening four minutes. Her delivery into the near post found Aimee Deacon, but the forward could only fire into the side netting.

Chloe Chivers then went close to opening the scoring soon after, carrying the ball from halfway into the Wrexham half before dragging her long-range effort wide of the post.

However, it would be the visitors who struck first. Lilli Mai Jones advanced down the right and delivered a cross to Suckley, who headed home from close range.

The Swans responded quickly and were level just two minutes later. Trivett once again caused problems down the left, beating her defender before delivering a low cross to the back post, where John was on hand to fire home.

Swansea continued to apply pressure in search of a second, with Sammy Wynne threading a pass through to Trivett, but her effort was saved by Liz Craven.

Wrexham would take the lead with 10 minutes left to play in the first half, when Barker played a precise through ball to Suckley, who calmly slid her effort past Amelia Forkings.

The score remained 2-1 at the break but the Swans had a big chance to level once more when Trivett found herself through on goal, however she was unable to convert.

Moments later, Wrexham extended their advantage as winger Knox finished from distance following a swift move through midfield.

The visitors then took full control of the contest, adding a fourth through Knox’s second of the match as she fired into the corner.

Barker, the league’s top scorer, added a fifth when she met a delivery from Phoebe Davies, becoming the first player to reach 20 goals in the Genero Adran Premier.

Substitute Mahmood reacted quickest to finish from close range following a Jodie Bartle cross.

Chivers continued to push for a consolation late on, forcing two good saves from Craven, but it was Wrexham who had the final say as Barker completed the scoring in stoppage time to round off a difficult evening for Swansea.
