Report: West Ham U23s 5 Swans U23s 3

21st October

Swansea City Under-23s produced a spirited late fightback before succumbing 5-3 to West Ham United in Premier League 2.

The young Swans were slow out of the blocks at the Chigwell Construction Stadium, falling 4-0 behind in the 65th minute.

And despite hitting back with three goals in the space of 16 minutes, their hopes of completing a comeback were thwarted when the hosts struck a fifth in the dying seconds.

They fell behind after just four minutes as Botti Biabi put through his own net, while Joe Powell made it 2-0 from the penalty spot when Brandon Cooper brought down Jahmal Hector-Ingram.

Sean Adarkwa added a third before half-time and, 20 minutes after the break, Powell grabbed his second from the spot following Adnan Maric’s foul on Emmanuel Longelo.

However, the Swans hit back with Tyler Reid firing past Nathan Trott from long range, before he turned provider for Jordon Garrick in the 73rd minute.

Garrick then set up Maric to bring the visitors to within a goal of their hosts, but they were hit by a devastating counter-attack in the dying moments as substitute Veron Parkes applied the finishing touch.

The under-23s, who remain on three points in Premier League 2, are back in action on Friday, when they welcome reigning champions Arsenal to Landore.
