Richards delighted with attacking threat

Gary Richards praised Swansea City Under-23s' attacking performance following a 3-1 win against Chelsea.

An Oli McBurnie hat-trick inside 40 minutes helped the young Swans take a commanding lead into half time.

Daniel James' midfield creativity almost extended the U23s' lead but Chelsea battled to create their own chances with substitute Kylian Hazard eventually finding the net before goalkeeper Erwin Mulder pulled off a crucial save to deny Dujon Sterling.

“We are delighted with the result,” said the Under-23s coach.

“We are especially pleased with the first-half performance. We looked a real threat in attack all through the match.

“We took the game to Chelsea which is the most pleasing aspect. To look such a threat and score three excellent goals shows what we are about.

“Anybody watching Oli McBurnie would realise his quality. He was clinical with his chances but tonight was a real team performance in attack and defence.

“It is an important win for us. We feel like we are progressing. Recent games have been challenging but to get that winning mentality is very important.”
