Richards: Let's keep building

1st November

Gary Richards reckons Swansea City Under-23s have confidence to build on going into their Premier League 2 clash at Tottenham Hotspur on Friday (midday).

The young Swans have picked up four points from their opening nine games in the top flight of development football this season.

Nevertheless, they head to North London with momentum following an impressive second-half display in their defeat by West Ham United two weeks ago plus the hard-earned 1-1 draw with reigning champions Arsenal last Friday.

Richards believes the development side have been unlucky not to get more points on the board this term, but has urged the players to build on their current momentum.

“We have shown a lot of character in recent weeks, especially in the second half against West Ham and first half against Arsenal,” the under-23s coach said.

“We haven’t picked up the points our performances have deserved, but the Arsenal game gave us confidence to build on.”

The Swans and Spurs played out entertaining 2-2 draws in both of last season’s meetings and Richards knows tomorrow’s game will be another good test.

“We know that Tottenham are a very good footballing team and it’s important that we keep our concentration at all times,” he added.

“The games programme is terrific. Having played Arsenal last week, it’s another great opportunity for the boys to play against a club like Tottenham.”
