Richards: U23s beaten by the better team

11th August

Gary Richards admitted Swansea City Under-23s were second best in their Premier League 2, Division 1 season opener against Liverpool.

A goal in each half from Danny Ings and Yan Dhanda respectively saw the young Swans slip to a 2-0 defeat against the Reds at Landore on Friday evening.

Aaron Lewis, George Byers and Botti Biabi came close, but could not find the net for the Swans in what was a frustrating debut in the top flight of development football.

“We are all disappointed with the result,” the Swans U23s coach said.

“We were definitely beaten by the better team, Liverpool deserved the win.

“We were definitely beaten by the better team.

“We gave the ball away too cheaply at times and that cost us. We have to be better than that.

“Tonight’s game shows the standard we need to be at because it will be as tough as this every week.

“We will learn from this game and move forward, now it is important we focus and get prepared for our next test against Cheltenham in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday.”
