Richards: U23s deserve credit

4th March

Gary Richards believes Swansea City Under-23s deserve credit for their recent performance levels ahead of this evening's Premier League 2 showdown with reigning champions Arsenal.

The young Swans travel to Meadow Park – home of non-league Boreham Wood – aiming to build on a three-match unbeaten run in all competitions.

During that span, the development side have recorded 2-0 victories over Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers, as well as a 2-2 draw with Hull City.

Richards insists confidence within the camp is high as they prepare to lock horns with the reigning Premier League 2 champions.

He has also been pleased to see his players’ consistent displays in recent weeks rewarded with positive results.

“When we’re going to places like Arsenal, we can only ever look forward to it,” the under-23s coach said.

“The boys are feeling good and confidence is high. We played really well in our away games against Chelsea and Wolves and got good results that have kept our momentum going.

“We have to give these players credit. They’re a good group and always give everything. Their performance levels have been high for most of the season but, in recent weeks, they have found ways of turning good performances into positive results.

“We want to finish the season strongly and our focus is on making sure we maintain those performance levels.”
