Richards: U23s must continue momentum

25th August

Gary Richards believes Swansea City Under-23s go into Sunday’s Premier League 2 clash against West Ham with confidence after picking up their first point in division 1.

The young Swans face the Hammers at Dagenham’s Victoria Road (1pm) following Monday’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United and a 2-1 Checkatrade Trophy victory over Cheltenham Town the previous week.

“It is important we take the momentum from our last two results into Sunday’s game,” said Richards. “We can go to West Ham with confidence.

“It was pleasing to see a good performance against Manchester United. We limited their chances in attack and looked dangerous on the counter.

“Now we have set the bar we need to make sure we maintain our performance level this weekend.

“West Ham have taken four points from their first two league games so the game will be another tough challenge.

“We can’t take them lightly and it is important we continue to progress this weekend.”
