Richards: We are excited for new season
Gary Richards insists Swansea City Under-23s are relishing the challenge of playing in the top flight of Premier League 2 this season.
A dominating campaign saw the young Swans lift the division 2 title in April and gain promotion to the top tier of development football.
The U23s kick-off their PL2 division 1 campaign at home to Liverpool on Friday, August 11 before a tough Checkatrade Trophy tie at League Two side Cheltenham Town the following Tuesday.
The young Swans round off August with away games against Manchester United and West Ham.
“Our first four games only whets our appetite for the coming season,” said Richards. “Playing in division one means we will line up against some of the best opposition and young players in the country.
“This season is a huge opportunity for our young players and we are relishing the challenge that lays ahead.
“The whole team is working hard to be ready for our first game against Liverpool.
“We are pleased with our progress so far this pre-season and feel like we have picked up from where we left off last campaign.”
