Richards: We must recover from difficult defeat

23rd October

Gary Richards has urged Swansea City Under-23s to bounce back ahead of Friday's Premier League 2 clash against Everton.

The young Swans suffered their first defeat in four games as they went down 2-0 against Leicester City at Holmes Park on Monday.

Foxes striker Admiral Muskwe scored a goal in each half, while the Swans were reduced to 10 men when defender Jack Bainbridge was shown a straight red for a high foot.

Despite a difficult night Richards insists it is important his players produce a positive response against the Toffees on Friday.

“The circumstances were difficult today but it’s really important that we dust ourselves down and get ready for Everton because we know that’ll be a big challenge,” he said.

“We've come up against a Leicester side who are very effective. We knew they would be quite direct and that we were going to have to deal with a lot of balls into our box.

“Up to a certain point, I think we did okay, but the disappointing thing is that they were a little bit quicker to second balls than we were from a defensive point of view.

“Following the mistake for the goal and the sending off, you’re always going to be up against it.

"To be fair to our players, we’ve put in a real shift in the second half and their work ethic was very good to ensure Leicester did not run away with the result .”
