Ronald loved every moment of his first south Wales derby and felt the Swansea City fans and team fed off each other’s energy in the 2-0 win over Cardiff City.

A first-half strike from Liam Cullen, and a goal in second-half stoppage time from Jamal Lowe saw the Swans claiming the bragging rights, making it five wins in the last six matches against their old rivals.

Ronald was named the Sky Sports’ man of the match after his pace and movement caused the visitors all manner of problems throughout the contest at the Swansea.com Stadium, while he also won a second-half penalty for the hosts.

The Brazilian revealed the meeting with the Bluebirds was the first major derby he had played in, and he relished the atmosphere in SA1.

“I am very happy because the atmosphere helped the team during the game, this game means more than three points and I am happy that we were able to get the victory for the fans,” he said.

“The players explained the story of the derby to me, but they said to play like I have been, to be happy on the field and to play for the team.

“This is the first big derby of my career, the atmosphere was incredible, and it gave me confidence because I wanted to play for the fans.

“We showed great character after the penalty miss, we continued to play the same after the penalty, because we knew that if we scored a second goal it would kill the game and, thankfully, we got that at the end."
