Russell Martin and Joel Piroe nominated for monthly Championship awards

Swansea City head coach Russell Martin and forward Joel Piroe have been nominated for April’s Sky Bet Championship manager and player of the month awards respectively.

Martin is nominated after an excellent month which saw the Swans lose just one of their eight fixtures, claiming three wins and four draws and scoring 17 goals along the way.

Among those victories was the 4-0 win at Cardiff, which sealed a first league double in south Wales derby history.

Martin is nominated alongside Huddersfield boss Carlos Corberan, Nottingham Forest’s Steve Cooper and Millwall manager Gary Rowett.

Piroe was on superb form during that sequence, and ended April with seven goals and two assists from eight appearances, including braces against Derby, Reading and Bournemouth.

The Dutchman is among a quarter of nominees, with Huddersfield wing-back Harry Toffolo, Forest’s pacy winger Brennan Johnson and Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke the other trio on the shortlist for the award.
