Swansea City boss Russell Martin has hailed "beautiful footballer" Joel Piroe after the forward took his goal tally to 20 for the season with a brace against Derby County.

Head coach Martin praised the Dutchman for his attitude and adaptability after another excellent performance as the Swans strung together three wins in a row for the first time this season.

Piroe has become the first player since Oli McBurnie to reach the magic 20-goal mark for the Swans, but Martin believes there’s more to come from the 22-year-old.

“He’s a beautiful footballer, a brilliant finisher, but most importantly he’s a fantastic person,” said the Swans boss.

“He needs to continue with the same attitude. I still think he has a long way to go in terms of improving his physical capabilities, there’s a lot more to come from him as he’s only a young man.

“He’s been playing in a different role and he has been for a while – since Michael [Obafemi] has been in such good form – and he’s been fantastic there. The way he’s adapted - he’s scored as many goals in that position as he did in the other one.

“Joel has a brilliant way of making the players around him even better.

“I can’t take any credit for the way he strikes the ball. There is other stuff we’ve tried to help him with but he’s an intelligent footballer and strikes it really clean.”
