Russell Martin praised his team’s courage and intensity after they recovered from an early setback to beat West Brom 2-1 in SA1.

The Swans took on the second-placed Baggies just three days on from their south Wales derby heroics over Cardiff.

Despite felling behind to a Karlan Grant strike after just 52 seconds, the Swans bounced back to seal consecutive league wins for the first time under Martin thanks to second-half goals from Joel Piroe and Jamie Paterson.

And Martin was delighted with the response from his team, and the energy levels given the fact they had two days less to prepare than the Baggies.

“It wasn’t an ideal start,” said Martin. “We talked about starting well in a game like this. We’ll look and learn from that.

“The way we recovered from a slow start was incredible. It was brave.  It could have been a really long night for us.

“We played with real intensity in the second half against a team that is really well organised and aggressive.

“I loved the courage and conviction we showed. We are getting stronger and stronger.

“We deserved to win. It was a massive win for us tonight.”
