Russell Martin | We are disappointed, but we showed the team we can be

Russell Martin told his Swansea City players they will get their rewards if they continue to show the courage in possession they displayed at Middlesbrough.

The Swans ended up on the wrong end of the scoreline on Teesside thanks to Isaiah Jones’ first-half goal.

However, they dominated long parts of the game, particularly during the second half, without being able to make the most of the number of opportunities they created.

And, while disappointed not to emerge with a positive result, the Swans head coach was proud of the second-half showing.

“I thought we were outstanding in the second half, I will take that performance every single week. I thought we were excellent to a man,” he said.

“Flynn Downes, Ben Cabango, Kyle Naughton, Matt Grimes. I could go through the whole team.

“I will accept that every time away from home. I spoke yesterday about wanting to make it into a home game and being the team we wanted to be.

“We played the game we wanted to play but we have been punished for one really poor moment and not being clinical enough.”
