Russell Martin | We have to be relentless

Russell Martin has urged Swansea City to show a relentless mentality and continue their good form when they host Barnsley this afternoon (3pm).

The Swans have won their last three games, and four of their last five, with a points haul of 13 points from that quintet of games ranking with the very best form in the Championship.

They host a Tykes side who lie eight points from safety with time fast running out to pull off a great escape from the drop.

The visitors travel with the worst away record in the Championship, picking up just seven points on the road all season.

But, as they look to retain their Championship status, Martin knows the hosts cannot afford any drop off in the standards they have set recently.

“It’s been a really good run for us,” he said.

“The players deserve so much credit for what they’re giving us. Now it’s just about them being relentless with each other and making sure that no one gets comfortable with where we’re at.

“It’s really important we finish as strong as possible. The players seem to be really focused and ready.

“Barnsley have a lot to play for. That’s what makes it so interesting.

“We played against them when the manager took over in his first game, since then, they've developed a clear way of doing things.

“We need to turn the game into a game we want it to be. We need the right intensity and mentality.

“I hope everyone turns up to the stadium knowing it’s a big game. They’re fighting for their lives.

“We’re in a good place but we have to make sure we put it on to the pitch.”
