Swansea City head coach Russell Martin believes his squad have given themselves a good platform to attack the resumption of Championship action, after rounding off their training camp in Scotland with a 2-0 win over Dundee United.

Goals from Jamie Paterson and Ryan Manning were the difference at Tannadice, with the Swans dominant and producing some fantastic passages of play against their Scottish top-flight hosts.

The Swans had also emerged victorious when they faced Hearts at Tynecastle in midweek.

But Martin’s satisfaction with the week was about far more than the results of the two friendlies.

The Swans boss believes the chance for players and staff to be together for a full week has only been beneficial to the spirit and unity in the group, while the hard work put in on and off the training field has really pleased the former defender.

“I think we have taken a good step forward across the two games, which is very pleasing to see,” he said.

“We have done lots of work on certain things and there were a lot of good things in the game on Tuesday, but there was also a lot to work on.

“We worked on some of those areas over the rest of the week, and the players have worked really hard when they’ve trained.

“So for them to put in a performance like that over that first 60 or 70 minutes was really pleasing.

“I think the week has given us a really nice platform to build off.

“I think we have utilised the break in the best possible way.

“This break has gone even better than we hoped it would in terms of the togetherness of the group on and off the pitch.

“Across the players and staff, everyone has bought into it. The feeling in the group is incredible.

“I think it has made a big difference.

“There were some fantastic things today that we will show the boys on Monday, and there will still be things to work on.

“But it’s been a really good day, and a really good week.”
