Sammy Wynne v Cardiff Met

Swansea City Women’s midfielder Sammy Wynne praised her teammates for ensuring they started 2024 in the best-possible fashion with a 5-0 win over Cardiff Met Women in the Genero Adran Trophy quarter-finals.

Wynne helped her side to a semi-final place, picking up two assists as well as playing an excellent ball for Katy Hosford before she was brought down in the box to earn the Swans a penalty.

Hosford netted the Swans opener before John-Davis stepped up to the spot to make it two, with Robyn Pinder adding a third just before the break.

Chloe Chivers sealed the win for her side, netting twice in the space of four minutes to ensure a spot in the final four.

Wynne was delighted to help her side continue their good form from the end of 2023 - they have now won 10 of their last 11 games in all competition - and wants to keep contributing heading into the business end of the season.

“It’s the perfect way to come back after the festive break, it’s important to come back with a bang after a couple of weeks off and that's exactly what we did," she said.

“It’s five goals and five good goals for us, we could have had a few more, we created loads of good chances and got a clean sheet, which is always important.

“We left for Christmas in really good form, and I think we picked up exactly where we left off, which is testament to all the girls and their commitment.

“On a personal level I want to get my numbers up in this part of the season, as a midfielder it’s your job to get assists, it’s what I expect from myself and hopefully I can contribute more in this part of the season.

“We want to spread the goals around, we don’t just rely on one person, it takes pressure off everyone because we know that anyone can chip in.”
