Season in Review 2021-22 | August 2021

With the 2021-22 season having reached its conclusion, we take a look back over the course of an eventful transitional period for Swansea City.
Here, we kick things off by recalling the key events from a busy August, while also reliving the best of the match action from the opening month of the campaign.
August 2021
The month started with the appointment of head coach Russell Martin just six days before the start of the campaign.
The former MK Dons boss signed a three-year contract with the Swans, as he and his coaching staff quickly got down to work with little time to prepare for the opening day fixture at Blackburn.
There were also no shortage of transfer ins and outs. Jamie Paterson, Flynn Downes, Michael Obafemi, Olivier Ntcham, Ethan Laird and Rhys Williams all joined the club, while there were departures for George Byers, Jamal Lowe and Connor Roberts, and loan moves for Kyle Joseph, Jordon Garrick and Ollie Cooper.
Club stalwart Wayne Routledge announced his retirement after a decade with the club, while Mark Allen was appointed as sporting director.
Off the field, the Liberty Stadium was renamed as the Swansea.com Stadium.
On it, the 2021-22 season got under way with a trip to Ewood Park. There were five league games and two Carabao Cup in the opening month of the campaign.
