Stacey John | We deserved more
Swansea City forward Stacey John believes the 3–1 defeat to Cardiff City at the Swansea.com Stadium was not a fair reflection of her side’s performance.
Aimee Deacon put the Swans ahead 11 minutes into the second half, but Cardiff levelled through Helen Evans before late strikes from Mikayla Cook and Lily Billingham secured the win for the visitors.
It was the Swans’ first defeat since early October, but their display offered plenty of positives after controlling large spells of the game.
John felt the manner of the performance offered room for encouragement, but admitted the outcome would have been very different if the Swans had been more clinical in their finishing after creating a number of chances.
“It’s a hard one to take,” said John.
“I don’t think that scoreline is a reflection of our performance. The girls put a real shift in as a team and everyone has worked for each other. That scoreline certainly is not warranted for our efforts, and I think we deserved a lot more out of that game.
“I think for the majority of the game we were dominant. We had more opportunities in front of goal than them, where Cardiff have had a handful of chances and capitalised on it and that’s made the difference.
"If we had capitalised on ours then it would have been a very different outcome.
“We will learn from it. We know what mistakes we made and it will only make us better. We have massively improved from the last performance to this, and we will continue to improve.
“We will reflect in the week as a team and regroup, We will look at the mistakes and errors that we made and put them right and bring them into Aberystwyth next weekend and go again.”
