Swansea City Women forward Stacey John praised her side’s togetherness and character after they battled to a 2-1 victory over The New Saints at Park Hall on Sunday.

John netted the winning goal from the penalty spot 11 minutes before half-time, with Chloe Chivers having drawn the Swans level just two minutes after Zara Gibbs had given the Saints the lead.

It took John to 151 goals in Swans colours as they bounced back after defeats to Cardiff and Wrexham, and the experience striker was delighted with the response.

“We are really proud of our performance, to come away with three points which I think we fully deserved is fantastic, so collectively as a group we are really happy," she said.

“It was a great reaction from the girls once we conceded. It was against the run of play, but to see how we responded was great.

“That is something we haven’t done over the last few weeks but it' something we have definitely been working on, so for all of us to stick together for that final 75 minutes was a really big positive for us.

“We said at half-time that they would come out and try to fight because that is the type of team that they are.

“We knew they wouldn’t just sit back and let us take the three points so we were fully expecting a challenge defensively, but we stuck together as a collective which is the biggest thing we can take away from the game.”
