Steve Cooper saluted Swansea City’s “finishers” after his super subs played their part in another well-earned victory.

Jay Fulton came off the bench to set up Andre Ayew’s winner on Saturday as the Swans recorded their fifth away of the campaign with a 1-0 victory at Luton Town.

Fulton latched onto Celina’s through ball before crossing for Ayew to chest home his tenth goal of the campaign to move the Swans up to sixth in the Championship table – one point behind third-placed Fulham.

Fulton’s impact came off the back of Barrie McKay’s assist in the 3-1 triumph over Middlesbrough a week earlier.

Cooper has also seen Wayne Routledge and Sam Surridge score last-gasp winners against Leeds United and Wigan Athletic this term after coming off the bench.

And the Swans boss was delighted with the latest impact of his super subs.

“We call them finishers – just like they do in rugby,” said Cooper.

“Part of the methodology in our training programme is to train the whole squad every day in readiness for the next game whether that’s fitness, tactical, individual development – that’s what it’s all about.

“It’s really pleasing when players come off the bench and show their quality.

“Jay did it on Saturday, just like Wayne and Kyle (Naughton), while Barrie created a goal against Middlesbrough.

“Never once have I seen players shy away and lacking confidence, and that’s a very good sign.”
