Steve Cooper proud of "dominant" defenders
Steve Cooper has spoken of his pride at how Ben Wilmot and Ben Cabango handled the white hot heat of a South Wales derby to come through the test with flying colours.
Some pundits had highlighted the Swans youthful pairing before the game, with Wilmot having recently turned 20, with Cabango still a teenager at 19.
But the duo more than justified the faith head coach Cooper has shown in them, producing two rock solid displays to help the Swans to a third clean sheet in succession.
And the Swans boss heralded the manner in which they dealt with a direct approach from the home side.
“A lot was said about playing two young guys in a game like this, but I think that’s the only way young players get better and we are a club that gives youngsters a chance and we promote our own,” he said.
“They should be proud, it was a tough one for them but I did not worry about them.
“They are competitive and athletic and they dominated that part of the game, I thought.”
