Steve Cooper described Swansea City’s historic win over Leeds United as the perfect result, as a 1-0 triumph at Elland Road sent his side top of the Championship table.

Substitute Wayne Routledge struck a last-gasp winner – firing home a deflected cross via the inside of the post – to give the visitors their first win at Elland Road in 70 years, and just their second ever.

It sparked jubilant celebrations among players, management, staff and fans at the final whistle, and Cooper was full of praise for a resilient display.

“It's a perfect result. Keeping a clean sheet and scoring one,” he said.

“We had to work hard for it no doubt. We came here to win that's for sure, there are obvious areas to exploit against Leeds, and although we didn't do it quite as well with the ball in the first half, the second half we looked quite dangerous.

“It's a clear penalty as well (when Kiko Casilla challenged Sam Surridge) that should have put us 1-0 up but then we get the goal from Wayne from a set-piece.

“I liked us defensively today, anyone that comes here knows they will have moments where they have to defend properly, and we did that.”
