Steve Cooper | We are motivated and focused

Steve Cooper insists Swansea City will relish the challenge of trying to write their names in the South Wales derby history books today.

The Swans can complete the first league double in the history of the fixture if they can secure victory at Cardiff City Stadium this afternoon.

They earned the opportunity with a 1-0 win in the reverse fixture at the Liberty back in October.

While Cardiff have lost just one of 12 home Championship games so far this term, head coach Cooper has every confidence his side can deliver if they retain their focus amidst the maelstrom of derby day.

“This is about the football club. Whether it be staff, players or supporters we are trying to do our best for the club and the city,” said Cooper.

“We are aware that winning two games in a season has never been done, but it just adds to the motivation.

“It allows us to be as motivated as we would be anyway, but you store it in your head and you make sure it drives you to the places you need to go to.

“The closer you get to the game you have to stay focused on what it takes to win the football match, and that is a performance, a mentality and a togetherness to get over the line.

“We know this is a game that matters big time. That makes us motivated, focused and enthusiastic.

“But we know we need to stay calm, stick together and be sure when the game kicks off that we know what it takes to win and perform.”
