Steve Cooper | We only have ourselves to blame

Steve Cooper felt Swansea City only had themselves to blame after losing 3-2 to Derby County in an exciting Liberty Stadium contest.

The hosts trailed at the interval after an early Martyn Waghorn goal, but hit back quickly after the break as goals from Yan Dhanda and Kyle Naughton put them in front.

However, they could not see the game out as Duane Holmes and Tom Lawrence fired in from the edge of the area to hand the Rams victory in SA1.

And head coach Cooper was frustrated with how his side had relinquished the initiative once they had gone ahead.

“We are frustrated with not just losing the game, but how it happened,” he said.

“We only have ourselves to blame, we did not play well enough in the first half.

“We did not play with enough energy or aggression, with and without the ball. We were a bit passive really, which is not what we want.

“That changed second half, we were on the front foot, we were pressing and we were trying to play forward.

“I felt we were good value to go 2-1 up and then we have reverted back to where we were in the first half and made some poor mistakes for the goals.

“We shot ourselves in the foot really, I think we’ve given the three points to Derby rather then them earning them, and that’s no disrespect to them.

“We only have ourselves to blame with the result.”
