Steve Cooper is not surprised by Swansea City’s strong start to the season, feeling it is just reward for the hard work his players are putting in.

Sunday’s 3-0 win over Birmingham keeps the Swans in the midst of their best start to a league campaign since the 1978-79 season, when John Toshack was at the helm.

It also means Cooper has enjoyed the best start by any Swans boss in the club’s 107-year history over the first five league games of a tenure.

Swansea join Leeds as the Championship pacesetters in these very early stages of the season and, while Cooper and his players are not getting carried away with 41 games still to go, the head coach says his belief in his squad meant he felt a good beginning to the campaign was possible.

“Every game we've played so far, I believed we should win and that will continue. So I'm not surprised we've won certain games,” said the head coach.
